This Chão Rijo is a real statement. Those vibrant citrus and tropical notes – ripe mango, passionfruit – seem to have sprung straight from the Lisbon coast. There’s a wonderfully saline influence, almost maritime, hinting at a birth amongst the region’s rocks. It’s a beautiful expression of Malvasia Fina and Fernão Pires, it seems they quite relish a pinch of salt. Absolutely divine with grilled fish and, of course, a good pastel de bacalhau.
