This Águia Moura Vinhas Velhas Reserva clearly shows a meticulous approach – a delightful blend of around ten indigenous grape varieties, featuring the ever-so-refined Touriga Nacional and the powerfully structured Aragonez. The extended, stainless steel fermentation really coaxed out the fruit’s intensity, and I suspect a generous maceration resulted in a remarkably deep colour. Maturation in new 300-litre French oak barrels has imparted subtle spice and vanilla notes, which work beautifully with rich, gamey meats or a slow-cooked beef.
