Alión, whose name refers to the León region where the family Álvarez patriarch was born, is located just 15 kilometres from the headquarters and in a very similar spot, between the Duero River and the Valladolid‑to‑Soria highway, near the wine‑capital Ribera, Peñafiel. The first harvest that reached the market, in 1991, was produced at Vega Sicilia’s estate, but from 1993 the Alión brand had its own facilities after acquiring and renovating Bodegas Liceo. The cellar was remodeled again in 2001 to introduce wooden tanks for fermentation, in line with the winemaking style of Tempos Vega Sicilia. (Illustrative image only)
