This “slow distillation,” it seems, took considerably longer than just barrel maturation in Allier oak. A 10-year-old “Arch” – sounding more like a delicate melody than a vintage – clearly imparted its character. With Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon contributing, the notion of ageing Portuguese wine in French Allier oak is certainly… unique. A fascinating choice for those who enjoy a touch of eccentricity, and pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and smoked meats.
