This Artadi Tempranillo certainly isn’t afraid to be a little quirky. The winemaking, with open oak vats and a maceration that seems to playfully dance between 24 and 48 hours, suggests a producer who enjoys letting things breathe. Those daily “two lees stirs” and subtle pumping over point to meticulous attention, as if the wine were having a little chat with the winemaker – a fascinating approach that undoubtedly yields a vibrant, fresh-tasting wine, perhaps best enjoyed with some red berries and a good, crumbly sheep’s cheese.
