This Azulera, from the vineyards of Raul Riba D'Ave, certainly seems to have spent a thoughtful youth. Following a harvest – undoubtedly accompanied by some serenades – the Sousão, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão and Touriga Francesca grapes underwent meticulous inox fermentation. The 24 months in a blend of new and used French oak barrels ensured a remarkably smooth and complex maturation, and those extra six months in inox only added to it. A patient 27 months in bottle suggest a wine with the potential for an elegant evolution, perhaps best enjoyed with a hearty beef roast for a truly delightful contrast.
