Description

Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 as João Pires & Filhos, has carved a long journey, establishing itself as one of the country’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by making wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. In the 1980s, it expanded, acquiring vineyards across Portugal and setting new standards for quality wine production. The Quinta da Bacalhôa—considered the most beautiful estate from the early 15th century still extant in Portugal—was once a royal property. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famed Palácio da Bacalhôa form a major artistic monument. Today the Quinta belongs to the Berardo Foundation, headed by Commander José Berardo. Designated a National Monument on 23 June 1910, the surrounding area offers picturesque villages, wine cellars, and the stunning Arrábida Natural Park.
