Founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal has taken a long road to become one of Portugal's most innovative wine producers. The company began by making wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal began its expansion, acquiring properties across the country and setting new standards for quality winemaking. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still standing in Portugal, the Quinta da Bacalhôa is a former property of the Portuguese Royal Household. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Bacalhôa Palace form an artistic monument of great importance to the country. The Quinta da Bacalhôa now belongs to the Berardo Foundation, which is part of the Berardo family, whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On June 23, 1910, it was classified as a National Monument. In the area surrounding the Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors will find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal's most beautiful and impressive landscapes: the Arrábida Natural Park.
