Bacalhôa Wines of Portugal, founded in 1922 as João Pires & Sons, has travelled a long journey, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in the country. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa expanded, acquiring properties across the nation and setting new standards for quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still standing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is a former property of the Portuguese Royal Household. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the renowned Palace of Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great national significance. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, led by Commander José Berardo. Declared a National Monument on 23 June 1910, the surrounding area offers picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most striking landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
