Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has traveled a long path, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company’s activities began with the production of wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal began expanding, acquiring properties across the country and setting new paradigms for quality wine production. Regarded as the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still standing in Portugal, the Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa together form an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, owned by the Berardo family whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. It was classified as a National Monument on June 23, 1910. In the surrounding area, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park. (illustrative image)
