Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has come a long way, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by making wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring properties across the country and setting new standards for quality wine production. The Quinta da Bacalhôa, considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still standing in Portugal, is an old royal property. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famed Palace of Bacalhôa together form an artistic monument of great significance to the country. Today the Quinta belongs to the Berardo Foundation, part of the Berardo family whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On June 23, 1910, it was designated a National Monument. In the surrounding area, visitors encounter picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal’s most stunning and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park. (Illustrative image only)
