Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has come a long way, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. During the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal began expanding, acquiring estates across the country and creating new paradigms for quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Fundação Berardo, a family-owned foundation headed by Commander José Berardo. On 23 June 1910 it was classified as a National Monument. In the area surrounding Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
