Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has come a long way, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. In the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal started expanding, acquiring estates across the country and setting new standards for quality wine production. Regarded as the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an ancient property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famed Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great significance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Fundação Berardo, which is associated with the family of the same name, whose patriarch is Comendador José Berardo. It was declared a National Monument on 23 June 1910. In the area surrounding Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
