Description

The estate was purchased in 1863 by Baron Nathaniel Rothschild, who immediately changed its name from Château Mouton de Pauillac to the current Château Mouton Rothschild. It survived some turbulent times until 1922, when Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the property and quickly restored the château’s name to the top of the wine labels, beginning the first official bottlings in 1924. Today, Mouton Cadet is managed by the grandson, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, who continues to ensure the highest quality of the wines produced on the estate, preserving the Bordeaux terroir in every bottle. The château was reborn from the ashes with its first bottling in 1924, and from the 1945 harvest onward, once it was recognized as a great wine, all labels began to feature works by renowned contemporary artists such as Picasso, Chagall, Miró, and others. As a recognition of its greatness, Château Mouton was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé, the elite of Médoc wines. Its wines are powerful and rich yet possess a sense of finesse and a velvety texture when aged. They are truly magnificent and unforgettable. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes in proportions that vary from year to year, Cabernet Sauvignon is always the dominant variety. Many wines have been born in this house over the years, and countless stories have passed through the magnificent château’s doors. The wines speak for themselves, and some are among the most sought-after worldwide, as many are considered among the best ever made. (Illustrative image only)
