Originating from the plains of the Tagus, this wine is born at Quinta São João Batista, and its proximity to the Tagus River and the quality of the soil contribute to the production of excellent wines. The origins of Quinta de S. João Batista are lost amid tales of noble successions, donations to religious orders, and other events. It was acquired in 1987 by Caves Dom Teodósio, now part of the Enoport Wines Group, and since then the estate underwent a major restructuring of the vineyards and the construction of a modern winemaking centre. Located in the Natural Biosphere Reserve of Paul do Boquilobo, recognised by UNESCO since 1981 as a World Biosphere Reserve, Quinta de S. João Batista is steeped in centuries of history, represented by a colonial‑style manor house and an architectural ensemble of excellent wine‑aging cellars. It covers a total area of about 145 hectares, of which 130 are planted with vines.
