This Campolargo Valdazar, hailing from the Bairrada with a touch of Trincadeira and Baga, bolstered by the sturdy Tinta Barroca, clearly had a spirited youth – that lees fermentation, the gentle mechanical basket pressing… it all points to a wine brimming with character. The result is surprisingly aromatic, evoking a woodland enchantment with hints of wild berries, balanced by a delicate floral note. On the palate, cocoa appears with effortless elegance, leaving a refreshing finish, a well-deserved 94 points, and ideally paired with game meats or aged cheeses.
