This Cartuxa Matusalém is a wonderfully audacious bottle, clocking in at a generous 6 litres – a true testament to the spirit of the Alentejo. Crafted from a blend of Aragonez, Trincadeira, and Castelão grapes sourced from the esteemed Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, where the sun certainly put in a passionate performance, this wine is clearly built for ageing. The controlled fermentation at 27°C allowed the fruit to truly express itself, followed by a year in French oak – a touch of elegance, of course – resulting in a wine that’s begging for a perfectly grilled steak and some *batata panca* to accompany it.
