Casa da Passarella The mystery of the box found inside one of the walls of Casa da Passarella is finally solved. The story begins in 1942, when the box was wedged into one of the walls of Casa da Passarella by its former owners, containing a handwritten document with instructions to open it 50 years later. In the document, signed by a group of emblematic figures of the time, there was also a last wish: that all the contents of the box be distributed to the poor. The truth is that neither of those things happened. Only in 2010, when the house underwent renovations, was the box found and opened, and there was nothing inside. Investigations progressed, never quite solving the mystery. When it seemed that resignation would triumph over persistence, a specialist in the uncanny was called to the site: “the box was indeed full” – explained Professor K. Noronha – “but not with tangible, material things. The box was saturated with an extraordinary essence that, reacting with the future times, would bring happiness through wine to all who made art and profit from it. Now, those future times are already part of the present. And this is a double discovery” – he concluded. The Discovery is a red DOC Dão from the Serra da Estrela sub-region. It is born from vines planted on poor, granite soils in a mountain climate. Vinification: From the balance of more mature vines with fresher ones, this wine emerges with the traditional grapes Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen and Touriga Nacional as its base. The winemaking takes place in a press, where we aim to express the full potential of our terroir. In this sense, one of the measures we take is fermentation with yeast selected from our vines, a tradition of the house that dates back several decades. The aging is carried out in traditional cement tanks, with a small percentage in used barrels.
