This Castelão, hailing from a vineyard over 60 years old in Fernando Pó, is a wonderfully evocative wine. Extended maceration – four whole weeks, no less – has concentrated dark fruit and spice notes, producing an aroma reminiscent of a particularly luxurious compote. The influence of French oak barrels adds an unexpected elegance, with whispers of tobacco and dark chocolate playing across the palate, all within a full-bodied structure and firm tannins. Seriously, it would pair beautifully with a perfectly grilled beef steak, wouldn’t it?
