The Casa Santos Lima estates are located in the municipality of Alenquer, 45 km north of Lisbon, in a region where wine‑making tradition runs deep and typical rural landscapes unfold with great beauty. The vineyards spread across gentle slopes at elevations between 100 and 220 metres, boasting excellent sun exposure and a climate moderated by the mild maritime breeze from the Atlantic Ocean, about 26 km away. The predominant soil is a clay‑limestone from the Upper Jurassic period, with numerous marine fossils—and even dinosaur traces (Apatosaurus alenquerensis)—found in the area. Replanting has been carried out regularly since 1990, using the finest Portuguese grape varieties, which here express a unique regional character, and, on a smaller scale, the best international varieties. On the family’s more than 200 hectares of vineyards, a vast diversity of grape varieties can be found. (Illustrative image only)
