Description

The properties of Casa Santos Lima are located in the municipality of Alenquer, 45 km north of Lisbon, in a region where winemaking tradition is centuries old and typical rural landscapes unfold with great beauty. The vineyards stretch across gentle slopes at elevations between 100 and 220 metres, enjoying excellent sun exposure and a climate moderated by the mild maritime breeze from the Atlantic Ocean, which lies about 26 km away. The predominant soil type is clay‑limestone from the Upper Jurassic period, with numerous marine fossils discovered, including traces of dinosaurs (Apatosaurus alenquerensis). Replanting of the vineyards has been carried out regularly since 1990, using the most noble Portuguese grape varieties, which here exhibit a unique regional character, and also, on a smaller scale, the finest international varieties. With over 200 hectares of vineyards, the Santos Lima family hosts a vast diversity of grape varieties.
