With a history dating back to the early 18th century, the main house was built in 1720 and, surprisingly, survived the 1755 earthquake thanks to the granitic structure of the Serra de Sintra. In 1903 wine production stopped, but a century later the “most westerly vines in Europe” were replanted and the cellar modernised. The wines of Casal Sta. Maria are the result of nature’s expression and the unique terroir that surrounds the vines, located on the coastal edge of the Serra de Sintra. (illustrative image only)
