Casas Altas The landscape of the Beira Interior is dramatic and sparsely populated, with a demanding climate, granite soils and high altitudes. The vineyards coexist with hedgerows, olive groves and diverse woodlands, at an altitude above 650 m, on granite soils, with sunrise and southeast sun exposure and high diurnal temperature swings between day and night. The ripening is traditionally long. A unique terroir that imparts distinctive qualities to the Casas Altas wines, and it is here that the Casas Altas Chardonnay white wine is born. Produced at Vinha da Rogenda in Pinhel, it is an oxidised white wine that aged in French oak barrels for six months. It should be slightly chilled and pairs well with dishes such as Thai curry or a European duck breast. The traditional baked cod does it justice. It is a wine without a season, tasting equally well in the heat of summer and the chill of winter. Winemaker: Gabriela Canossa.
