According to its age, wines may show marks left by time, such as dust residues in the bottles and/or some label damage—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The Garrafeira Nacional stores all wines at the correct temperature and humidity but always maintains the visual appearance inherent to their age. We usually select the brands/regions that perform well in old wine competitions. However, wine is a living organism that, like others, is exposed to time, and even inside a bottle its aromas can evolve differently. Thus, Garrafeira Nacional cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, as it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle breathe beforehand, which will help release the natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting; it may be too aggressive for old wines.
