Cos, as it was known, was born in the hands of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a man who had only one passion – the small Cos estate – which he considered so special that in 1811 he decided to start bottling his production. Unfortunately, his passion ultimately became his downfall: in an attempt to expand and beautify the property he incurred a great many debts, leading to its sale in 1985. The château passed from owner to owner until it reached the Prats family (also producers of Chryseia with the Symington family). In 2000, Bruno Prats sold Cos d’Estournel to Michel Reybier, the current owner. (Illustrative image only)
