Cos, as it was known, was born from the hands of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a man whose only passion was the small Cos estate, which he considered so special that in 1811 he began bottling his production. Unfortunately, this passion turned into his downfall; in an effort to expand and beautify the property he accrued numerous debts, leading to its sale in 1985. The château changed hands several times before reaching the Prats family (who also produce Chryseia with the Symington family). In 2000, Bruno Prats sold Cos d'Estournel to Michel Reybier, the current owner. (Illustrative image)
