Cos, as it was known, was born in the hands of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a man whose sole passion was the small estate of Cos, which he deemed so special that in 1811 he began bottling his production. Unfortunately, that passion also became his undoing, as he incurred numerous debts in an attempt to expand and beautify the property, leading to its sale in 1985. The château changed hands repeatedly until it reached the Prats family (who also produce Chryseia with the Symington family). In 2000, Bruno Prats sold Cos d’Estournel to Michel Reybier, the current owner.
