Cos, as it was known, was born in the hands of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a man who had only one passion – the small Cos estate – which he considered so special that in 1811 he decided to start bottling his production. Unfortunately, this passion also became his downfall, as he accrued numerous debts in an attempt to expand and beautify the property, leading to its sale in 1985. The château changed hands several times before landing with the Prats family (also producers of Chryseia with the Symington family). In 2000, Bruno Prats sold Cos d'Estournel to Michel Reybier, the current owner. (illustrative image only)
