Cos, as it was known, originated in the hands of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a man whose sole passion was the small Cos estate. He considered it so special that in 1811 he began bottling his wines. Unfortunately, that same passion became his downfall; in an effort to expand and beautify the property, he accrued numerous debts, leading to its sale in 1985. The château changed hands several times before landing with the Prats family (who also produce Chryseia with the Symington family). In 2000, Bruno Prats sold Cos d'Estournel to Michel Reybier, the current owner. (illustrative image only)
