Depending on its age, wines may show signs left by time, such as dust residues on the bottles and/or some damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. Garrafeira Nacional commits to storing all wines at the correct temperature and humidity, but always opts to preserve the visual appearance inherent to their age. We generally select brands and regions that typically perform well in old‑wine tastings. However, wine is a living organism, and like others, it is exposed to time; even within a bottle, aromas evolve in different ways. Consequently, Garrafeira Nacional cannot be held responsible for the quality of the wine, as it is an old wine. Our recommendation is to open and let the bottle air out first, which will help release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years sealed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines. (illustrative image only)
