Château Haut Sarpe has a long history in the region, dating back to 1750 when it was founded by Pierre Beylot. The elegant château was inspired by the Trianon in Versailles. The estate first gained prominence when it won a gold medal for its wine at the 1867 Paris World Fair. At that time the property belonged to the du Foussat family. Today, Château Haut Sarpe is owned by the renowned Janoueix family, who took over the estate in 1930. The Janoueix family also owns many celebrated properties in Saint‑Emilion, as well as in Pomerol and Bordeaux Supérieur. Located a short distance from Saint‑Emilion, the vineyard covers 21 ha, planted 70 % Merlot and 30 % Cabernet Franc. In this unique and complex setting, the terroir blends clay, limestone and sandy soils. (illustrative image)
