Château Latour is located in the heart of Médoc, in the Bordeaux region, covering 92 hectares of vineyards dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is steeped in history, dating back to 1378 when the land became the property of Gaucelme de Castillon, who built a guard fort 300 m from the estuary to defend against attacks during the Hundred Years' War. The tower, christened La Tour, lent its name to the surrounding estate, which remained in English hands until the Battle of Castillon in 1453, when it was completely destroyed by the forces of the French king. Though the original tower no longer exists, a new circular tower was erected in 1620 by Simon Ledwidge, becoming the estate's enduring symbol.
