Description

The Château Latour is situated in the centre of Médoc, in the Bordeaux region, covering 92 hectares of vineyards, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon. Its history stretches back to 1378, when the lands were acquired by Gaucelme de Castillon, who erected a guard fort 300 metres from the estuary to defend against attacks during the Hundred Years’ War. The tower, named La Tour, gave the estate its name; it remained in English hands until the Battle of Castillon in 1453, when it was completely destroyed by the French king’s forces. The original tower no longer exists, but in 1620 a new circular tower was built by Simon Ledwidge, becoming the property’s symbol. (illustrative image)
