Château Latour is situated in the heart of Médoc, in the Bordeaux region, spanning 92 hectares of vineyard that is predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is steeped in history, tracing back to 1378 when the land became the property of Gaucelme de Castillon. He built a garrison fort just 300 meters from the estuary to defend against attacks during the Hundred Years’ War. The tower, christened “La Tour,” gave its name to the surrounding estate, which remained in English hands until the Battle of Castillon in 1453, when it was completely destroyed by the forces of the French king. Unfortunately, the original tower no longer exists. In 1620, a new circular tower was erected, built by Simon Ledwidge, and it has since become the estate’s symbol. (Illustrative image)
