This Château L’Hospitalet is a delightfully perplexing wine – you almost expect the master brewer to have been calling the shots in the cellar. The colour is so vibrant it’s practically shimmering, and the nose is a real treat of spices, with a hint of strawberry that speaks of youthful exuberance. On the palate, the tannins are incredibly fine and silky, almost making you forget it’s a Syrah, and the fresh fruit is so prominent – perfect with a good roasted duck to balance the intensity.
