The estate was purchased in 1863 by Baron Nathaniel Rothschild, who immediately changed its name from Château Mouton de Pauillac to its current name, Château Mouton Rothschild. It weathered several turbulent periods until 1922, when Philippe de Rothschild took the reins, and the wine was reborn from the ashes with its first bottling in 1924. From the 1945 vintage, already recognized as a great wine, all labels began to feature illustrations by renowned contemporary artists such as Picasso, Chagall, Miró, and others. In recognition of its excellence, Château Mouton was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé, the elite of Médoc wines. Its wines are powerful and rich, yet refined with a sense of finesse and a velvety texture when aged. They are truly magnificent and unforgettable. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot—proportions that vary year to year, but with Cabernet Sauvignon always in the majority—the estate has produced many remarkable wines over the years. Stories have passed through the doors of this magnificent château, and the wines speak for themselves. Many of them are among the most sought‑after wines worldwide, ranking as some of the best ever produced. (Illustrative image only)
