Description

Jean‑François de Pontet was appointed to the court of Versailles, where he served as Grand Equerry (Master of the Horse) to Louis XV. After returning to Guyenne he became Governor of the Médoc. In 1705 he bought several hectares north of the village of Pauillac, planted vines, and gave the land his own name in order to give his estate a distinct identity. A century later, Château Pontet‑Canet was thriving and was among the few estates selected to join the famous 1855 classification, ordered by Napoleon III. Today the estate is owned by the descendants of Guy Tesseron—Alfred and his aunts Mélanie and Philippine. Together they have ushered in a new era for Château Pontet‑Canet, where viticulture embraces organic and biodynamic practices and the wines have advanced to become among the most prestigious in Bordeaux.
