The Girondins Fountain, beloved to the hearts of everyone in Bordeaux, is located at Place des Quinconces. It celebrates the glory of the Girondins and was created by sculptor Dumilâtre. Consisting of 52 tonnes of bronze, the sculpture was erected between 1894 and 1902, and was removed during World War II by the French resistance to make cannons. It was finally reinstated in 1982 beneath the City Hall of Bordeaux. (illustrative image only)
