Colares wine is renowned for its uniqueness worldwide. Its terroir, heavily influenced by the Atlantic, produces wines with extraordinary salinity and complex aromas that deepen with bottle ageing. Founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar, the estate initially focused on the Lisbon region and large‑scale exports to Brazil. Later led by his son, António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Jr., and now by his grandson, António Bernardino Paulo da Silva, the winery sells primarily domestically while also exporting a large share to several European countries and the United States.
