According to its age, the wines may show the marks of time, such as dust residues on the bottles and/or some label damage—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar stores all bottles at the proper temperature and humidity, yet it always chooses to preserve the visual appearance that reflects their age. We typically select brands and regions that perform well in old‑wine tastings. Still, wine is a living organism that, like all others, is exposed to time, and even inside a bottle its aromas evolve in different ways. Therefore, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the quality of an aged wine. Our recommendation is to open the bottle and let it breathe first; this helps release the wine’s natural aromas after many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines.
