“Contraste” – the name certainly fits. This Douro wine masterfully balances its youthful character with the layered complexity you only find in the oldest vines. Predominantly crafted with Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Roriz, it bursts with red fruit – cherries and black cherries, of course – accented by hints of tobacco and graphite, as praised by Robert Parker. Extended maceration, combined with 18 months in used French oak barrels, gives it a remarkably refined texture, without sacrificing the rugged charm that makes it so captivating. Expect this wine to evolve beautifully over the next decade, according to experts, and frankly, it possesses a strong enough personality to pair with anything a little daring – perfect with roasted meats, but seriously, it’s confident enough for a bit of anything.
