Description

In 1988, a couple made up of a Danish man and an American woman set sail on a yacht in search of a place to raise a family, plant a vineyard, and produce wine. A fairy‑tale dream that sparked the beginning of Cortes de Cima, now one of Portugal’s leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family‑run estate led daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, covering 140 hectares of vines planted with Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz, and Verdelho. The oldest vines were planted in 1991, when Syrah was not yet permitted by regional regulations. Nevertheless, Hans, convinced the climate and soil were ideal for this Rhône variety, produced the first Syrah, an unregistered wine, in 1998 and marketed it as Incógnito, which quickly gained fame in Portugal and earned medals in London, Brussels, and Bordeaux.
