Description

In 1988, a Dane and an American couple set sail on a yacht in search of a place to raise a family, plant a vineyard, and produce wine. A fairy‑tale dream that gave birth to the story of Cortes de Cima, now one of Portugal’s leading wineries. Located in Vidigueira, Cortes de Cima is a family estate run daily by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, covering 140 hectares of vines planted with Aragonês, Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Petit Verdot, Antão Vaz and Verdelho. The oldest vines were planted in 1991, when Syrah was not yet permitted under regional regulations. Still, Hans, convinced the climate and soil were ideal for this Rhône variety, produced the first Syrah wine, unofficially, in 1998 and marketed it as Incógnito, which quickly gained fame in Portugal and earned medals in London, Brussels and Bordeaux.
