Cos D'Estournel Fascinating, Opulent, Voluptuous – the Allure of Distant Lands As mysterious and intriguing as a lone adventurer returning from a long voyage across the seas, Cos d’Estournel unfurls slowly. Little by little, it evokes tales of far‑off places, markets brimming with unfamiliar fruits, spices, and exotic treasures; village celebrations warmed by the joy of the guests and the glow of the sunset; and sumptuous images of elegant women with voluptuous figures. An abundance of aromas, colors, and flavors awakens the senses. The Grand Vin of Cos d’Estournel is simultaneously reserved and deliberately sensual: a fascinating, elegant nectar of great distinction. The terroir of Cos d’Estournel responded exceptionally to the 2023 climatic conditions. The humid zones near the vineyards played a crucial role in balancing the effects of the last two heat waves, contributing to the wine’s final harmony and balance. Cos d’Estournel 2023 showcases velvety tannins, a subtly present inner strength, and an ending of extraordinary sophistication. It is a wine of delicate balance and great capacity for emotion. Wine is a living organism. After barrel aging it continues to evolve in the bottle, year after year. To fully appreciate the aromatic richness of Cos d’Estournel wines, follow a few simple rules. Ideally, wines should be stored in a clean cellar, at a temperature between 12 °C and 15 °C and a relative humidity of about 80 %. The estate’s wines develop complex aromas that vary with the characteristics of each harvest and evolve over time. Proper service allows all these qualities to express themselves fully. The younger vintages—produced after 2000—should be decanted at least two hours before tasting. Oxygenation helps reveal each wine’s personality and intensity, allowing its full potential to be appreciated. It is recommended to open, without decanting, vintages from 1982 to 2000 about two hours before service, allowing their aromas to unfurl gently. Wines produced before 1982 should be served straight from the bottle, avoiding too abrupt oxygenation, which could damage the delicate nature of these precious nectars. The ideal serving temperature ranges from 15 °C to 16 °C. As the wine warms slowly in the glass, it will gradually release its entire aromatic palette, revealing its most subtle and delicate nuances.
