Depending on its age, the wines may show signs of time, such as dust residues on the bottles and/or some damage to the labels—common in wines that have been stored for decades. The National Cellar ensures that all wines are kept at the correct temperature and humidity, but it always chooses to preserve the visual appearance that comes with age. We typically select brands and regions that perform well in old‑wine tastings. However, wine is a living organism that, like any other, is exposed to time, and even inside a bottle its aromas can evolve in different ways. Consequently, the National Cellar cannot be held responsible for the wine’s quality, since it is an aged wine. Our recommendation is to open the bottle and let it breathe beforehand, which will help release the wine’s natural aromas after so many years closed. Avoid decanting, as it can be too aggressive for old wines. (Illustrative image)
