Covela Reserva Branco

Description

Nestled in a natural amphitheater with south-facing slopes along the Douro River, the Quinta de Covela has stood since the 16th century on the border between the granite zone of the Vinho Verde region and the schist zone of the Porto wine region. With panoramic views of the river, the estate covers 49 hectares, of which 18 are planted with vines, spread across two civil parishes in the Lower Douro—São Tomé de Covelas and Santa Cruz do Douro—both renowned for their extraordinary natural beauty and rich cultural history. In more recent times, Covela belonged to Manoel de Oliveira, one of the most important European filmmakers of the mid‑20th century to today. The director, a true “Renaissance man,” transformed the estate in many ways, building aqueducts, massive stone walls, stone houses, and granite drying bins for the locally grown corn.
