The Curral Atlântis Verdelho of the Azores is a perfect illustration of how the bouquet of this variety captivates. Though restrained and austere, it delivers a superb balance between body and freshness, with orange and flint notes on the nose and an astonishing saltiness on the palate, giving the wine length and definition. On the island of Pico, in 1995, Curral Atlântis was born from the partnership of Jorge Bohm and Manuel Faria. With 3 hectares of vines, they launched an experimental plot of 24 grape varieties to revive old cultivars such as Verdelho and Arinto of the Azores. Supported by the University of Évora and winemaker Paulo Laureano, new wines were created and markets secured. Today, owned by the Faria family, Curral Atlântis spans 42 hectares of vineyards, producing a wide range of wines that embody Azorean quality, marked by Atlantic influence and volcanic terroir.
