Dom Rafael originates from the ancient vineyards of Aragonêz, Trincadeira, Castelão and Alicante Bouschet vines. The grapes for this wine are hand‑harvested and selected, crushed by foot, and fermented in open stone vats of the cellar—exactly the same methods that have been used for more than a century at Herdade do Mouchão, making Dom Rafael one of the region’s most celebrated reds. The red is aged in dark oak and Portuguese oak barrels, as well as French oak casks, for 12 months, after which it undergoes an additional 12 months of bottle maturation.
