It was in 1927 that 11 partners, led by Domingos Silva and Ângelo Neves, decided to found Aliança in Sangalhos (Anadia), which now boasts more than 80 years of existence. Aliança began its activity by immediately exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe, and today more than 50 % of its production is destined for export—especially wines, sparkling wines and spirits—forming the brand image of Aliança in Portugal and in roughly 60 countries where it exports. In 2007 Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal acquired a majority stake in Aliança, bringing it under the Bacalhôa Group. The corporate name of Caves Aliança S.A. was changed to Aliança Vinhos de Portugal S.A., at which point its institutional image was also updated. Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, one of the largest and most innovative wine companies in Portugal, has over the years developed a wide range of wines that have earned it a solid reputation and the preference of national and international consumers. With presence in seven Portuguese wine regions, covering a total of 1,200 ha of vineyards, 40 estates, 40 different grape varieties and four wine centers (cellars), the company stands out in the market for its size and for having 70 % autonomy in its own production.
