Poeira After producing seven vintages as a winemaker at the Real Companhia Velha, Jorge Moreira felt the need to start an individual project where he could apply his ideas and control the entire production process. Without concessions, a wine that would reflect his interpretation of the Douro. In 2001 he launched the Poeira project, located in Provesende, along a slope in the Pinhão valley on the right bank of the river that shares its name. The Vinha da Torre vineyard, situated in Covas do Douro, was planted in 1950. It is an old‑vine plot with good root development, vines in excellent condition, and altitude and sun exposure characteristics that perfectly fit the Poeira philosophy. Here you find all the concentration and complexity of the Douro, but without excesses, resulting in a wine of great elegance and balance. The Vinha da Torre Tinto 2018 was produced from old‑vine vines with a blend of varieties, grown on slate soils at 400 m altitude. The harvest is hand‑picked in 20‑kg crates, and fermentation takes place in a tank, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels and a 16‑month maturation in French oak barrels. Bottling occurred in September 2020, and total production was 3,100 bottles. This wine has a total acidity of 5.9 g/L (tartaric acid) and a pH of 3.57. The Vinha da Torre Tinto 2018 reveals all the authenticity of the Douro, reflecting the tradition of old vines and meticulous attention to detail at every stage of production, from harvest to bottling.
