This Ermelinda Freitas wine, built around Castelão, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon, clearly benefited from a healthy dose of patience. Extended maceration on the slate lagares, carefully temperature-controlled, allows the grapes to fully express their aromatic potential – and, let’s be honest, a good level of tannin. The six to eight month aging in French oak adds an elegance that nicely contrasts with the robustness of the grapes. Perfect with a hearty beef roast, naturally.
