Evel Evel is one of Portugal’s oldest and most charismatic wine brands, having been registered in 1913. The curious choice of its trade name comes from the fact that it has no inherent meaning beyond what you get when you read its anagram: “Light.” A century ago, the creators used this playful twist to evoke the wine’s sensory profile, a notion that has endured to this day – an elegant, smooth, and pleasant wine that was a staple on the official menus of the Portuguese Republic at the time. From the 1950s onward, Evel’s status as “supplier to the Presidency of the Republic” helped cement its prestige, with Real Vinícola proudly showcasing the labels. The Evel White is grown on vines planted at Quinta do Casal da Granja and Quinta do Cidrô, situated in the municipalities of Alijó and São João da Pesqueira respectively. These sites benefit from a cool climate that allows grapes to mature slowly, yielding aromatic wines with soft tannins. The wine presents a citrine hue with a natural shine typical of the region’s whites.
